SAN FRANCISCO – April 2, 2013 – The San Francisco International Airport Commission today announced the nominees to the Airport Naming Committee which was established on March 4, 2013.
The Airport Naming Committee will be chaired by Airport Commission President Larry Mazzola and will consist of eight additional individuals who, as a group, reflect awareness of the social, cultural, historical, and business interests of the City and County of San Francisco, and knowledge of and/or experience in the travel and aviation industries.
“The Airport Commission created the Airport Naming Committee to establish policies and guiding principles for the naming or dedication of San Francisco International Airport and its facilities, “ said Larry Mazzola, Airport Commission President. The Airport has had the same name for nearly 60 years and the brand and reputation are internationally recognized. Many distinguished people have helped and supported the Airport in that time. We want to create a public process that recognizes and incorporates the airport’s history.”

The Airport Naming Committee will seek input from the public, the Mayor, the Board of Supervisors, and the travel and aviation industries and advise the Airport Commission as to recommended policies and/or procedures for renaming San Francisco International Airport and/or its facilities.
The Airport Commission will confirm the Airport Naming Committee in a vote, currently scheduled for April 16, 2013. The public is invited to comment.
