Structure Fire In Soledad To Cover Burglary

Monterey, CA – About 2:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 21, 2013, Soledad Fire Department (FD)/CAL FIRE responded to a call for structure fire on the 600 block of North Street, in the city of Soledad (Monterey County). Soledad FD responded with assistance from Greenfield FD, Correctional Training Facility FD, and CAL FIRE, for a total of about a dozen firefighters.

Upon arrival, Soledad firefighters discovered a well involved single family dwelling that was unoccupied. Firefighters were able to protect the neighboring residences and knock down the fire in about 30 minutes. There were no injuries during this fire. The damage estimate is approximately $80,000. The cause of the fire is arson to cover up a burglary; it remains under investigation by CAL FIRE and Soledad Police Department. Soledad FD partners in a cooperative agreement with CAL FIRE for fire services. Soledad FD staffs one engine in the city 24/7 with two firefighters.
