Repeat Offender Arrested After Off Road Foot Chase

Watsonville, CA…CHP officers observed a white Cadillace in the area of Carlton Road which matched the description of a vehicle being driven by a person with a felony warrant, and recognized the driver as having an active warrant. Officers initiated an enforcement stop on the vehicle and a pursuit ensued. The Cadillac drove through a dirt road and into a dirt field where the driver, later identified as Agustin Palomares, took foot bail.

Palomares ran into a creek where SCSO deputies, WPD and CHP aircraft joined the search. The aircraft was monitoring the search and CHP officers were able to take Palomares into custody without further incident. Agustin Palomares was taken to a local hospital where he was checked by medical personnel. He was then booked into Santa Cruz County Jail. Palomares was arrested on suspicion of six felonies: including kidnapping, assault with a deadly weapon, stalking and vehicle theft. It is suspected earlier this week that Palomares pinned a woman in her vehicle by using his own vehicle while on probation for convictions for auto theft, stalking, terrorist threats and vandalism. Palomares is the same individual who was arrested in the 40 hour standoff with Salinas Police earlier this year.
