DEAR IN-SHAPE,This was sent to Fernando, a Custom Built trainer at In-Shape Sport: Modesto “Fernando, Let me say that I am extremely grateful that David assigned you as my trainer. Your professional approach, expert knowledge and customer service skills give me the assurance that you care for me as an individual and you will do all that you can to help me reach my fitness goals. From the beginning of our relationship, you took the time to find out what I wanted to accomplish and what limitations I have due to my health. I really appreciate how you are able to work around my limitations, but still provide for the exercise that I need for a complete workout. I really appreciate that you have taken the time to look at my record and offered suggestions for my nutritional needs and/or habits. Your personal encouragement helped me make the decision to postpone my scheduled bariatric surgery. Thanks to your training and encouragement I have lost 94.6 pounds from September 19, 2011(shortly after starting with your training) to May 24, 2012. I’ve lost 73 pounds just since January 5, 2012 when I started on my pre-operation diet. Losing 12.6 pounds in that first week when the “Before” pictures were taken helped me to realize that maybe the two of us could do this thing together. When I started with you, I could barely walk any distance at all and required a cane for assistance. I wore a size 60 pants and a size 4XL shirt. My dress shirts were a 22 inch collar. As of the “After” pictures, I no longer need my cane and am able to walk much further without pain. I now wear a size 48 pants and a size XL or 2XL shirt (depending on manufacturer) and my dress shirts are down to 18.5 inch collars that I wore in high school. The one thing that really stands out for me is that you just don’t talk to me when I have an appointment, but every time that we see each other in the gym. Without detracting from your scheduled appointee’s time, you have frequently commented to me when I needed correction when using a piece of equipment or stretching. I’m not just a number to you. I recommend you to everyone that I come in contact with at the gym. I’m looking forward to a day this year when we can celebrate my reaching my weight loss and fitness goal and continue to plan for the future. Don Norris” Congratulations Don! Keep up the amazing work! |

DEAR IN-SHAPE,
I had been overweight my entire life, tried all the fad diets to no avail. My father was always worried about my weight and wanted me to lose. I grew up in San Diego and in 1992 I moved to Las Vegas, NV. I worked odd shifts, got very little sleep, and ate on the go. I left Las Vegas in 2006 for Hanford, CA. By this time I had gotten so disgusted with myself, that I quit eating and would only eat dinner. I continued to gain due to this eating habit. My heaviest topped out at 341 lbs. Size 32 pants, and 26-28 shirts. I lost my dad on 1-7-2009 and that was my turning point. At that moment I realized how much I really needed to lose. In April 2009, I joined In-Shape and hired a personal trainer. I worked out with the trainer for 4 months, 3 times a week. He taught me the right foods to eat and the exercises I needed to achieve my goal. As of this morning I have lost a total of 137 lbs and fit into a size 12 pants. I still have about 60 lbs I would like to lose, but I am maintaining the weight loss, which is a huge accomplishment in itself. My advice to others would be:
I hope that my story is enough to inspire others to start their own weight loss journey. -Andrea, Member at In-Shape City: Hanford |

DEAR IN-SHAPE,“When Andy and I saw the pictures from our 4th of July family gathering… we couldn’t believe how much weight we’d put on. So we made a decision to do something about it. On August 17th, 2009 we walked in the doors of In-Shape Sport: Tracy. When the fitness manager asked what brought us in, we said we weren’t here for a diet or to just lose weight; we were here for a lifestyle change. It was a slow start for both of us but we stuck to it and found our groove. My husband started walking on the treadmill and lifting weights. His time in the gym has increased and he’s there religiously. I found success in the group exercise spin class. I’ve met some wonderful people who took me under their wing and introduced me to outdoor road bike riding. I completed my first metric century this past September. My husband is a wonderful cook. He’s changed his cooking to accommodate our healthy living. We eat sensibly, however still indulge every once in awhile. (Don’t get us wrong…we have good days and bad days…just now have the mindset to get up, dust it off and get back on!) No crazy diets, no weight loss pills, just good old fashioned hard work… sweating it out at our gym! We weigh in every month on the 22nd. Over Christmas, we had another family gathering and it was such a wonderful feeling having our family notice and comment on our hard work and progress. Funny thing is….you ain’t seen nothin’ yet!” -Andy & Jen, Members at In-Shape Sport: Tracy |

DEAR IN-SHAPE,My name is Heather and I am 26 years of age. I’ve been training with Custom Built inside In-Shape City: Turlock for about 9 months now. When I first started training I came in for my first weigh and measure and weighed in at 210 pounds. Ive always been overweight since I was a child. My heaviest weight was 234 pounds. I had managed to let myself go. I was was in the worst shape and condition I had ever been in. I knew I needed to do something, but actually doing it proved many times to be easier said than done. I’ve tried numerous diets and none of them worked. I may have lost a few pounds, but never enough to make a difference. I was even a member of the gym, I just wasn’t able to do both fitness and diet. I had gotten to a point in my life when I had no desire to do anything physical. I was lazy! The thought of doing something as simple as yard work bothered me. I knew something had to change not only for myself, but for my husband as well. That’s when we got started with Custom Built. Since I began training I’ve gone from a size 18 to a 9 and 210 pounds to 175 pounds. I haven’t felt this good since, well I don’t really know. It’s a great feeling to know that something works. This really has been the best thing to ever happen to me. With personal training and proper nutrition I have met goals I never thought I could reach. I look forward to a great future with Custom Built. I owe thanks to my wonderful trainer Omar Cortez. Thank you! Heather, Member at In-Shape City: Turlock |

DEAR IN-SHAPE,
“At the age of 47, I stepped on the scale and got the shock of my life. I was over 350lbs, my scale’s limit. I was tired of my fat stomach and decided to do something about it. I did some research and found a healthy diet that I could follow. I then started to go to the small gym at work twice a week . It did not take long for me to realize that I needed to work out more than twice a week, so I joined In-Shape. I started attending Power Cycle classes, since I use to be an avid cyclist, and loved them. I also began a resistance routine to build muscle and strength. It did not take long for people to notice the change in my appearance. I also noticed a huge change in my energy level. I was no longer coming home and falling asleep in my chair. Most of the time I was going to the gym and coming home energized. I recently turned 50, have lost over 130lbs and I teach Power cycle classes at the Monterey and Manteca In-Shape clubs. I am so glad I changed my life to the In-Shape lifestyle.” |

DEAR IN-SHAPE,On August 1, I started at workout program at In-Shape Sport: Marina along with a diet and supplement program at Max Muscle. I had not worked out for nearly 10 years. I weighed 325lbs and was taking 3 blood pressure medications and 2 cholesterol medications. I could only handle half-hour workout sessions. In January 2011, my doctor took me off 1 blood pressure medication and cut the other cholesterol medication in half. I now weigh 253lbs and workout 12 hours a week. My goal is to lose another 35lbs by July 30, 2011. The encouragement from the staff and patrons of In-Shape Sport: Marina has helped me tremendously. I sincerely believe that I will reach my goal. -Ross, Member at In-Shape Sport: Marina |

DEAR IN-SHAPE,I just want to share my achievement with everyone. I started the gym weighing 254.5 lbs in November of 2010. I needed to change my eating habits also. I feel so much better. I haven’t been this size in over 25 yrs. THANK YOU…IN-SHAPE SPORT |

DEAR IN-SHAPE,My name is Mallori, and I recently joined the In Shape team. When I came on as a summer camp lead, it was with the intention of only staying through the summer, while the after school program I was the director for, was being renovated. However, after only two months of working at the West Lane club, in Stockton, Ca, I fell in love with the company. Sincerely, |

DEAR IN-SHAPE,Well the big 50th Birthday came and went, but what a gift I gave to myself! I feel great! Look great too! I started my My life really changed when I joined In Shape. Not only were there many cool classes, at all different levels, but I actually met others who struggle like me. The instructors were really vested and enthusiastic, which is contagious. I’ve been addicted to group exercise, working out like a crazy girl. I have rearranged my schedule so I can attend a minimum of 8 to 10 classes each week. I’ve now lost a total of 130 lbs., 12 sizes and almost 20% of my body fat. I am so amazes at the things my body can do. I move with ease, I feel normal for the first time in a long time. I love shopping in regular stores. I love having unbelievable amounts of energy, I love the reactions of people blown away by my ongoing transformation. I am so optimistic that I will both reach and maintain my goals. I’ve totally changed my life, I’ve totally saved my life, and I’m so grateful. Perhaps someday I will take on the role of instructor, motivating others as so many have motivated me. DEAR IN-SHAPEI joined the In-Shape in Lemoore before they opened their full facility and started attending as soon as the child care was available in early November. In just those 3 months I’ve lost 15 lbs and now a total of 50.5 since June 13, 2010. I can not say enough about the Lemoore facility. DEAR IN-SHAPE,After years of a relaxed life following bypass heart surgery in 1998 and two breast cancer surgeries (2004 and 2005), I found myself to be in poor physical health. I found it difficult to walk long distances. Unable to do simple exercises due to lack of strength and adult diabetes, my blood sugar remained too high, affecting my eyes and nerves. I was deteriorating physically as the years progressed. I joined In-Shape City several months ago on the advice of my daughter, who was already a member. Since my sessions with my personal trainer, Alisa, my overall strength has improved, I can walk longer distances, my blood sugar level has returned to normal, I’m sleeping better at night and my overall health has improved a great deal. I owe my present physical condition to In-Shape City Los Banos and my personal trainer, Alisa Zavala. I can’t thank everyone enough for helping me become more physically fit. Thank you, Gayle Bonds Los Banos |

DEAR IN-SHAPE,I joined In-Shape City in the beginning of February because I was extremely overweight and depressed. I was scared, extremely self conscious and I knew absolutely nothing about working out. I had heard good things about a trainer named Callah and decided to hire her as soon as possible. I have come a long way so far in the two months that I have worked with her. I love Callah because she is motivating, her workouts are extremely challenging, and most importantly she makes me feel important. She taught me how to eat healthy and always stay positive. I no longer battle with my depression and I am happier than ever! I am still training with Callah and taking her group training classes as well. I still plan on losing a lot more, but I now can say I am comfortable in my own skin. I have currently lost more than 14 inches all around, about 5% body fat and 12 pounds. I went from a XXL to an L and from a pant size 14 to a 10. Thank you so much Callah! Sincerely, Maria Lopez April 2008 |

DEAR IN-SHAPE,When I joined In-Shape I didn’t know anything about exercise. Having never worked out in my life, I was overweight and out of shape. I was introduced to a trainer named Callah. Having Callah as a Personal Trainer is the best decision I’ve ever made! Through her motivating and extremely challenging workouts I have not only gotten in-shape, she’s taught me how to eat healthy as well. I now not only look good but I am healthier as well. Within weeks the pounds started disappearing and I finally started feeling better about myself! I can now proudly say that I can beat my 12 year old daughter at a mile race! Currently I have lost over 20 lbs., 5% body fat and over 10 inches! I STRONGLY encourage anyone who wants to look and feel the way I do to get Callah as their “personal trainer”! Jose March 2008 |

DEAR IN-SHAPE,I owe my life to the In-Shape Health Clubs and my training program there. In 1988, I joined the club, worked out 3 to 4 times a week, building muscle strength, endurance and cardio vascular fitness. These workouts and the level of fitness I attained made my recovery from bypass surgery in 2008 at age 62 amazing even to my doctors and therapists. Two months after surgery, I was walking 2 1/2 to 3 miles per day and have increased daily mileage to 5 to 6 miles every day. I also had knee surgeries in 2001-2003 due to a high school injury. With my arm strength, I was again able to lift my body and walk with the crutches and recovery was accelerated. Now it’s 7 months after cardiac surgery, I am very anxious to return energized with endured training, and actively walking to increase cardio fitness. Gordon Mowles March 2009 Stockton (West Lane) |

DEAR IN-SHAPEMay 12, 2010 I have a serious complaint about my membership. While your membership rates are reasonable, I was not warned about the extra hidden costs of working out at your clubs. I started working out in January of this year and have incurred numerous costs along the way that are directly related to working out with you. What costs? Well, I have had to buy an entire new wardrobe, for one. I weighed 325 pounds in January and have now dropped 60 pounds down to 265, directly because of working out with you, and NONE of my old clothes fit. I went from a 50″ waist to now a 40″ waist and went from a XXXL shirt size to an XL size and, although I think I still have a couple of old items that fit, they were from my school days and I don’t think wearing parachute pants would go over to well in the year 2010. So, I have had to buy an entire new wardrobe. To make things worse, I am still dropping the weight and will likely have to expend more for another wardrobe soon. Yes, it is true that I can now run a 5K Sincerely, Travis M. Colby p.s. – Pictures and more info on my path to being fit can be found on my blog: http://finallyairborne.blogspot.com/ UPDATE [6/29/2010] – I posted the latest photo on the blog. I am getting comments from people who saw things on the In Shape web site and this is very exciting. Thanks for putting it up, it helps me keep going. I am now training for a half marathon in November and have lost 72 pounds and 12 inches off my waist. The latest comparison photo shows the proof. I still have a ways to go, but having people who saw my story on your website is really motivating me to keep at it. Thanks! ANOTHER ANOTHER -Travis |

DEAR IN-SHAPESix months ago, I waddled into a gym for the first time over 100lbs. overweight and depressed-about the weight, and my life in general. My goal, the first one I can remember ever setting, was lose 100 lbs. some how some way. I had never worked with a personal trainer before, and assumed they were really fit drill sergeants who pushed you to work at their pace no questions asked. Enter Dana Tabacco; really fit, but most definitely NOT a drill sergeant! Dana took me at my worst, started me off at a slow pace I could handle, and has always encouraged me to dig deeper and try harder. Her style is unassuming, very positive, confident, imaginative, persistent, and very witty. Not many people can make me laugh, especially when I am all rubber-legged and struggling to catch my breath. Dana has an incredible repertoire of exercises that always keeps things fresh and interesting. With the attention span of Forty pounds lighter, it is actually what I have gained that means the most to me. Through our thrice-weekly sessions, To conclude, I would whole heartedly say Dana Tabacco is a very gifted personal trainer, my unknowing therapist of sorts, and a very sweet person in general, who has had a huge impact on my life. Thanks Dana, you have been one of the best investments I have ever made in myself. Kimberly C. Britz |

DEAR IN-SHAPEDear To Whom May Concern, I had been working out at In Shape for a couple of years and was in okay shape, so I thought, but I wanted something more to see more of a change in my body. The workouts I was coming up with just weren’t working so I turned to Custom Built personal training. Dana was my trainer and I soon found out I was not in good shape at all and had so much to learn abut the gym, my body and my nutrition!!! She was patient in reteaching me all I thought I knew about working out and was persistent about me making some changes with my diet. After just a short time with her I began to see results, have more energy and I started to enjoy coming to the gym to wee what kind of workout she had come up with!!! Her training is diverse, never boring, challenging but never discouraging!!! I wish I had her with me every time I came to the gym but I now, thanks to her, have the tools to continue my own journey in a more affective way. Thanks Dana!!! Sincerely, |

DEAR IN-SHAPEI came to Custom Built at In Shape in March 2010, my goal was to loose body fat and gain muscle. They assigned me personal trainer Dana Tabacco. Dana works with me on my nutrition, and introduced me to a whole new world of working out. She has not only helped me loose all of my weight and reach my fitness goals; but has also inspired me to become a Personal Trainer. Dana was very aware of all of my needs as a client and took time to not only push me through exercises, but also helped me understand what each exercise was doing. I would highly recommend Dana to anyone who is ready to meet their fitness goals. Thank you, |
