Give A Tax-Deductible Donation To The Red Cross

Sacramento, CA…It’s time to make those New Year’s resolutions and the American Red Cross asks you give something that means something by making a tax-deductible donation to the Red Cross before the clock strikes midnight on New Year’s Eve.

For many, making charitable contributions at the end of the year is part of their holiday tradition. The Red Cross depends on these end-of-year donations to provide hope, help and compassion to people in need and urges everyone to visit http://www.redcross.org/charitable-donations to see how they can support the Red Cross mission.

Hundreds of thousands of people needed help from the Red Cross in 2013, their lives forever changed by disasters like tornadoes, floods and wildfires in the United States and typhoons and other disasters around the world.

The Red Cross responded to 146 large disasters in 42 states and territories in 2013 as well as emergencies overseas. As many as 16,700 disaster workers responded across the United States, serving 1.8 million meals and snacks, distributing about one million relief items and providing 29,000 overnight stays in shelters and 89,000 health and mental health services.

In the 24-county Capital Region, Red Cross volunteers have responded to more than 550 local emergencies, providing disaster assistance to nearly 900 families.

STILL TIME TO SHOP THE CATALOG You can still go to the 2013 Red Cross Holiday Gift Catalog and buy a symbolic gift. These also are tax-deductible contributions to the overall Red Cross mission. Perhaps there is a legacy of military service in your family? If so, you can purchase a military comfort kit filled with a phone card, robe, shower shoes, toiletries and an MP3 music gift card for those who have been wounded.

Has the Red Cross assisted someone you know during a disaster? Your gift can provide food, shelter, comfort and hope to another person wrestling with the aftermath of a disaster. Donations can support warm, cozy blankets, hot meals or a toothbrush, soap and other essential personal care supplies for someone impacted by disaster.

For those with global interests, the Holiday Gift Catalog contains a number of gifts to bring Red Cross services to people in crisis overseas. These include vaccinations against deadly diseases, emergency water containers to help families collect and store clean water or emergency kits which include cooking sets, toilet paper, toothbrushes, water containers and blankets.

The purchase of each catalog item is a tax-deductible contribution that supports the mission of the Red Cross. The catalog gifts are contributions toward a Red Cross program area, not a donation to a specific project or item.

What better way to end 2013 than by lending a helping hand? Help someone in need and resolve to contribute to the Red Cross before the end of the year.
