CHP Pursuit leads to Discover of Drug Lab

Santa Cruz, CA….On December 28th CHP Officer Garcia observed a Harley Davidson Motorcycle traveling southbound on Mission Blvd., near King St. at high speeds. As Officer Garcia initiated an enforcement stop on the motorcycle the rider began to evade through the city of Santa Cruz. During the pursuit the rear passenger, on the motorcycle, was ejected from the vehicle.

That party, later identified as Bobbie Pena, attempted to flee on foot and was apprehended by CHP Officer Garcia. Pena was arrested and booked at the Santa Cruz County Jail for delaying a peace officer and public intoxication. During the pursuit investigation, Officer Garcia was able to identify the motorcycle driver as William Kingsland. An arrest warrant for Kingsland and search warrant for his residence was subsequently issued.

On January 8th Officers from the Santa Cruz Area CHP Office, CHP’s Coastal Division Investigative Services Unit (ISU) and the Santa Cruz County Anti-Crime Task force (SCCACT) went to Kingsland’s Forest Ave. residence to serve the arrest and search warrant. At the residence officers located a “Butane Marijuana-Hashish Conversion Laboratory” multiple marijuana plants and the motorcycle Kingsland used to flee during the pursuit. At the time of warrant service, Kingsland was arrested on two warrants: One warrant for felony evading and one for a misdemeanor Failure to Appear in court, as well as felony charges of operating a clandestine drug laboratory. Pena was also arrested at the scene on felony charges of operating a clandestine drug laboratory. Both Kingsland and Pena were arrested and booked at the Santa Cruz County Jail without further incident.
