Salinas, CA…On June 3, 2022, at approximately 0427 hours, California Highway Patrol (CHP) Monterey Area units were advised of a traffic crash involving multiple vehicles on State Route (SR) 183, near San Jon Road. Emergency personnel responded to the scene, however one of the drivers eventually succumbed to their injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

A preliminary investigation indicates the following series of events:

Party #1 was driving Vehicle #1 (Ford) northbound on SR-183, north of San Jon Road. Party #2 was driving Vehicle #2 (Lincoln) southbound on SR-183, north of San Jon Road. Party #3 was driving Vehicle #3 (Blue Bird) northbound on SR-183, north of San Jon Road, directly ahead of Vehicle #1. For reasons still under investigation, Party #1 allowed Vehicle #1 to cross over the broken yellow line, onto the southbound lane, where it collided into Vehicle #2. Following the initial impact with Vehicle #2, Vehicle #1 rotated toward the northbound lane, where it collided into Vehicle #3.

Drugs and/or alcohol are not believed to be a factor at this time, however this crash is currently still under investigation by the California Highway Patrol Monterey Area Office.
