75 Year Old Aptos Man Loses Life in Hwy 129 Collision

Watsonville, CA – On September 24, 2021, at approximately 1814 hours, CHP Officers responded to a traffic collision on State Route 129 (SR-129) at Rogge Lane. Upon further investigation it was determined, a 38-year-old Watsonville man was driving a 2001 Ford Excursion eastbound SR-129, just west of Rogge Lane with three juveniles passengers. A 75-year-old Aptos man was stopped on Rogge Lane attempting to enter westbound SR-129. For an unknown reason, the driver of the Toyota proceeded onto westbound SR-129 from Rogge Lane, directly into the path of the Ford, causing the Ford to collide into the Toyota.

As a result of the collision, the 75-year-old male sustained major injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene.

The cause of the collision is still under investigation. Alcohol and/or drugs do not appear to be a factor in this collision.

Fatal victim information is releasable through the Santa Cruz County Sheriff Coroner’s Office.
