Monterey, CA… On August 15, 2022, at approximately 0402 hours, a California Highway Patrol (CHP) Monterey Area unit was advised of a solo vehicle rollover crash, with an ambulance responding. The vehicle was located in the center median of northbound SR-1 south of Lightfighter Drive. The solo occupant of the vehicle, a male, was ejected from the vehicle. Emergency medical personnel responded to the scene and assisted with life-saving efforts, however, the driver was pronounced deceased as a result of this crash.

At an unknown time, the driver (P1) of the Hyundai (V1) was driving southbound on SR-1, south of Lightfighter Drive at a high rate of speed. As a result of V1’s speed, P1 failed to negotiate a slight right hand curve in the roadway, and V1 left the east roadside edge of southbound SR-1. V1 rolled over, and P1 was ejected from V1. V1 came to rest on its roof near the northbound SR-1 lanes of traffic.

Alcohol or drugs are not believed to be a factor to this collision. This crash is currently under investigation. If any member of the public has information regarding this crash, they are encouraged to contact the California Highway Patrol at (831) 796-2160 and provide a statement.
