16 Year Sentence for Salinas Man on Child Pornography Charges

Monterey, CA…Monterey County District Attorney Jeannine M. Pacioni announced today that Jose Nunez, age 37, pled guilty to possessing and distributing child pornography. Nunez also admitted an enhance-ment for having a prior strike conviction. Monterey County Superior Court Judge Rafael Vazquez will sentence Nunez to 16 years in prison on July 8, 2021. In addition to the prison sentence, he will be required to register as a sex offender for life.
Nunez was previously convicted of child molestation in November 2009 and he was sentenced to state prison. After serving his prison sentence, he was placed on parole and was assigned to be supervised by Parole Officer Tyrone Mays.

On October 29, 2018, Parole Officer Mays discovered that Nunez had exchanged child pornography with a parolee from another county. Parole Officer Mays collected Nunez’s cell phone and computer. Monterey County DA Digital Forensic Investigator Natalie Dill conducted a forensic download of Nunez’s electronic devices as well as a search of his social media accounts, including the Kik application.

Investigator Dill found numerous images and two videos depicting child pornography on his various electronic devices. She also discovered that Nunez had shared two videos containing child pornography with another individual via text message.

The case was investigated by Monterey County District Attorney Digital Forensic Investigator Natalie Dill, as well as retired Detective Javier Galvan and other deputies from the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office.
