Investigators Searching For Motives in Jewish Center Killings

Overland Park, KS..Police Department Investigating the Shooting Deaths of Three Victims – Update 8:15 p.m. At approximately 1 p.m. today the Overland Park Police Department received reports of shots fired at the Jewish Community Center (JCC), 5801 W. 115th Street, Overland Park, Kan. Shortly thereafter calls were received of shots fired at the Village Shalom retirement Center, 5500 W. 123rd, Overland Park, Kan.

Two white males were shot and killed outside of the JCC. A third victim, a white female, was fatally shot outside Village Shalom.

In addition, two individuals were shot at by the suspect outside of the JCC but did not sustain any injuries.

Immediately following notification of an active shooter, Overland Park police officers saturated the area and nearby neighborhoods.

Witnesses reported an individual described as a white male with gray hair and a long beard in possession of a long gun seen fleeing the JCC in a white sedan.

An individual was taken into custody without incident by the Overland Park Police Department at the Valley Park Elementary School, 12301 Lamar Ave, Overland Park, Kan.. The individual is currently in custody at the Johnson County Jail.

This matter is currently being investigated by the Overland Park Police Department, with assistance from the Federal Bureau of Investigation; the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and other law enforcement agencies.

There will be no additional release of information tonight. Notification will be provided regarding a press conference tentatively scheduled mid-morning Monday, April 14, 2014.
