Governor Brown Appoints Vanessa W. Vallarta to Monterey County Superior Court

SACRAMENTO – Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. today announced the appointment of Vanessa W. Vallarta to a judgeship in the Monterey County Superior Court.

Vallarta, 52, of Salinas, has been City Attorney for the City of Salinas since 2005. She was an attorney in private practice from 2002 to 2004 and was general counsel and vice president of human resources at Natural Selection Foods LLC from 2000 to 2001. Vallarta was an attorney at Lombardo and Gilles LLP from 1995 to 2000 and was executive director and attorney at the Center for Community Advocacy from 1990 to 1995. She was an associate attorney at Heller Ehrman White and McAuliffe from 1988 to 1990 and a law clerk for the Honorable Thomas Tang at the U.S. Court of Appeals, Ninth Circuit in Arizona from 1987 to 1988. Vallarta earned a Juris Doctor degree from Stanford Law School and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Princeton University. She fills the vacancy created by the elevation of Judge Adrienne M. Grover to the Court of Appeal. Vallarta is a Democrat.
