Carjacking Leads to High Speed Chase & Three Arrests

Salinas, CA…On September 13, 2022, at approximately 2:06 p.m., the Monterey Communication Center (MCC) broadcast an occupied stolen vehicle was in the area of S. Sanborn Road west of US-101, in Salinas, CA. MCC further apprised the stolen vehicle was a white Ford Mustang that had been stolen in a reported carjacking.

Monterey Area CHP units responded to the area and located the Mustang. A high-risk stop was initiated. The driver of the Mustang failed to comply and fled at a high rate of speed. Salinas Police Department officers observed the Mustang fleeing and attempted to make a traffic stop, with the driver of the Mustang failing to yield. A pursuit ensued that traveled onto northbound US-101 in the city of Salinas. The Mustang continued on US-101 into San Benito County and then Santa Clara County. Pursuing law enforcement lost sight of the Mustang.

Later, the Mustang crashed on northbound US-101 to the 10th Street off-ramp in Gilroy, CA. All occupants fled on foot, and law enforcement personnel from the Monterey CHP Area office, the Hollister-Gilroy CHP Area office, and the Gilroy Police Department responded. A search was conducted and two of the occupants were located and taken into custody.

One of the occupants resisted arrest and a CHP Officer was required to use their Electronic Control Device to take the subject into custody. This subject was provided on-scene medical attention.
