3 Fatal Crashes Over Last Weekend (2 of 3)

Monterey, CA… On August 14, 2022, at approximately 0601 hours, the California Highway Patrol received a report of a motor vehicle versus a pedestrian traffc crash. Upon arrival of emergency medical personnel, the pedestrian was pronounced deceased as a result of this crash.

A preliminary investigation indicated the following series of events:

At approximately 0601 hour Party #1 was walking northbound on SR-1, south of Springfield Road, in the southbound lane of traffic. Party #2 was driving a 2018 Honda Accord southbound on SR-1, approaching Party #1. Party #2’s Honda crashed into Party #1. Party #1 came to rest in the southbound lane of SR-1 and Party #2 stopped on scene. Party #2 exited his vehicle and went to the aid of Party #1. Party #1 was struck by at least two other vehicles while Party #2 was attempting to warn traffic. These vehicles did not stop on scene. Party #1 sustained fatal injuries as a result of this crash and was pronounced deceased on scene.

This crash is currently under investigation. Drugs and/or alcohol are not believed to be a factor at this time. The identification of Party #1 will be released by the Monterey County coroner’s Office when the next of kin has been notified. The southbound lane was temporarily shut down and one way traffic control was in place following CHP arrival.
