Structure Fire, Carmel Highlands (Monterey County)

Monterey, CA – At about 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 22, 2013, Carmel Highlands Fire Protection District (FPD)/CAL FIRE responded to a structure fire on Spindrift Road, in the community of Carmel Highlands (Monterey County). Carmel Highlands FPD responded with assistance from Cypress FPD and CAL FIRE; there were 16 firefighters on scene.
Upon arrival, firefighters discovered smoke emanating from the upper story of a two-story residential structure. Firefighters quickly knocked down the fire in 14 minutes; it was confined to the kitchen. While there is approximately $250,000 worth of damage, the remainder of the structure was not burned. The cause of the fire was cooking. There were no injuries as a result of this fire.
Carmel Highlands FPD and Cypress FPD partner in cooperative agreements with CAL FIRE for fire services. Carmel Highlands FPD staffs one engine in its district 24/7 with three firefighters, one of whom is a paramedic. Cypress FPD staffs two engines in its district 24/7 with four firefighters, one of whom is a paramedic on each engine.
