“The NFIB/CA has a 70 year history of advocating for small business owners, and as a small business owner myself and a legislator, I am honored to stand with them in this fight,” said Senator Gaines. “California still has the 48th-worst tax climate in the country. We should be providing incentives for entrepreneurs to start and grow their businesses here and create private sector jobs, not stifling them with onerous taxes and burdensome regulations.”

Each year, NFIB/CA identifies and lobbies on bills which would have the most significant impact, either positive or negative, on small businesses. Based on their vote on these critical pieces of legislation, each of the 120 Senators and Assembly members in the State Capitol receives a percentage indicating how often he or she voted to support small business.

NFIB/CA assessed California legislators on 12 bills vital to the health of small business in California during the 2016 half of the 2015-16 legislative session.

“I remain committed to making sure that Sacramento’s complex mandates and regulations aren’t thrown on the backs of hard-working small business owners,” said Senator Gaines. “I will continue to push for lower taxes and simpler, less burdensome regulations to let employers know that California is open for business in order to get our economy back on track and to strengthen our communities.”
