Memorial Service For Fire Captain Julie Freeman

Monterey, CA…– It is with great sadness that CAL FIRE announces a memorial service for fallen Fire Captain Julie Freeman. Captain Freeman was a highly-respected member of CAL FIRE who embodied the values of the department and dedicated her life to serving the citizens of California. Captain Freeman passed away on March 5th, 2017 after a battle with cancer.

Captain Freeman served in many capacities within the organization, beginning in 1997 as a Dispatcher in
the Fresno-Kings Unit. She continued her career in the Fresno County, holding the ranks of Firefighter
and Fire Apparatus Engineer before promoting to Fire Captain in 2010 in the San Benito-Monterey Unit.
Captain Freeman proudly served the Monterey Peninsula for the past eight years from the Carmel Hill
Fire Station.

Fire Captain Freeman responded to some of California’s largest disasters as an active member of CAL
FIRE’s Incident Management Teams. She held multiple incident command system (ICS) qualifications,
serving most recently on CAL FIRE Incident Management Team 6 as the Procurement Unit Leader.
In addition to her role as a Fire Captain, Julie was a dedicated member of CAL FIRE Firefighters Local
2881 serving in the highly respected Honor Guard. She held several positions within Local 2881 San
Benito-Monterey chapter, including Chapter Director.

A memorial service to honor Fire Captain Julie Freeman will be held on Thursday March 23, 2017 at
11:00 a.m. at The Church on the Hill, 500 Sands Drive in San Jose.
