Pebble Beach, CA…Pebble Beach Community Services District(CSD)/CAL FIRE, Carmel Highlands Fire Protection District(FPD)/CAL FIRE, Cypress Fire Protection District(FPD)/CAL FIRE, Carmel-by-the-Sea Ambulance, Monterey County Sheriff, and California State Parks Life Guards responded to kayakers in distress approximately 200 yards offshore from the 9th hole at the Pebble Beach Golf Links at 1:45 PM. Ground resources established command, while rescue swimmers and a rescue boat made access to the victims. A total of two victims and two kayaks were retrieved by the rescue boat and brought back to Stillwater Pier. Both victims were evaluated by paramedics at the pier and then released.

CAL FIRE and local cooperators want to remind the public to use caution in the water.

When in and around the water, always:

  • Use a buddy – never swim alone
  • Know your limits, and know how to swim

before you enter the water

  • Watch for hypothermia
  • If in doubt, don’t go out

If you get caught in a rip current:

  • Don’t fight the current
  • Swim out of the current, then to shore
  • If you can’t escape, float or tread water
  • If you need help, call or wave for assistance
