Local resident, Kim Evans of Arnold participated in the National Division of the Karaoke World Championships – KWCUSA held at Black Oak Casino on October 4th and 5th. She won both the Local and State Division earlier this year and won a trip to Las Vegas where she performed at the Santa Fe Station for the Western Regional division. Kim placed high enough to come back to Black Oak for the National finals. This is her second year being involved with this contest and her 4th national contest over the last 3 years. Last year she won the Regional Division and went to Cincinnati for the Nationals. Unfortunately she got sick and her voice wasn’t at it’s best, so she did not place in the top 5. She decided to try again this year and was ecstatic to have made it to the Nationals again when this year it was being held so close to home so that her family and friends could be there with her. She won, so she will be heading to Finland in December to represent the U.S. for the World Championships. KWCUSA is one of the largest karaoke contests in the world. It was the basis of the TV show Karaoke Battle USA which appeared on ABC a few years back.

Kim owns and operates Sweet Harmony Entertainment and has been providing DJ and Karaoke services throughout, Calaveras, Tuolumne and surrounding areas for over 13 years. She has Karaoke shows every Thursday night at Loruccio’s/The Nugget in Murphys. She also has DJ/Karaoke shows at Old Corner Saloon in Copperopolis, Cactus Jack’s Dawghouse in Murphys, and Sequoia Woods Country Club in Arnold on a rotating schedule. She has a facebook page under Sweet Harmony Entertainment that lists dates and times of her karaoke and DJ shows. She also provides services for weddings, private parties and events.

Black Oak hosted the National contest this year for the first time in the Willow Creek Lounge. It is open to the public and those over 21 were able to attend. Kim will be sung both Friday the 4th and Saturday the 5th before making the cut and narrowing it down to the top 5 performers. She is hoped for and got a big local turnout. She says the talent is amazing this year and it was a great show. She is uncertain of how many singers participated this year, but they came from all over the U.S. For more details check out Black Oak Casino’s web site or Sweet Harmony Entertainment’s facebook page.
