Faulty Power Lines Cause Vegetation Fire in Southern Monterey County

Bradley, CA…At approximately 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday June 28, 2017th CAL FIRE received reports of a Vegetation fire near the community of Bradley in Southern Monterey County. California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) along with crews from South Monterey County Fire Protection District (SoMoCo) and personnel from Camp Roberts Base responded to the reported area near the intersection of Highway 101 and Alvarado Road. The fire was burning in grass and brush with no structures threatened or damaged. Upon arrival, firefighters found approximately five to ten acres of grass and brush burning. As crews were arriving reports of down powerlines were announced.

Firefighters were able to minimize the spread of the fire with an aggressive initial attack. The fire was contained at about 9:55 a.m. Crews remain on scene to check for hotspots

No evacuations or road closures were initiated nor were there any structures damaged. There were no firefighter injuries the incident.

The cause of the fire was determined to be faulty powerlines.
