Daughter Saved, Father Passes Away After Being Swept Out to Sea at Carmel River State Beach

Carmel, CA…On Christmas Eve at approximately 12:30, resources from CAL FIRE, Carmel Highlands Fire District, Cypress Fire Protection District, Pebble Beach Community Services District, Marina Fire’s Chaplain, California State Parks, US Coast Guard and Monterey County Sheriffs Office responded to a report of two people swept out to sea from Carmel River State Beach.

Emergency personnel arrived to reports of father and daughter struggling off shore. Rescuers were able to locate and rescue the daughter who was transported by AMR Ambulance to Community Hospital of Monterey Peninsula with possible hypothermia symptoms. The father was located by US Coast Guard Helicopter, brought to shore by fire boat and also transported to CHOMP. Despite rescue and CPR efforts, he succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
